Collagen For Dogs

OLDER DOGS

Does your old dog think twice before he slowly climbs the stairs? Older and heavier dogs with mobility issues tend to be diagnosed as suffering from arthritis although younger pets can be affected. As our pets age, the fluid responsible for lubricating the joint starts to thin and wear and tear takes its toll. Changes are seen on x ray as bone starts to painfully rub on bone. Genetic factors can also play a role.

Healthy and Agile’s Digestivital and Jointvital are both 100% bovine collage and can offer relief. After all if it’s good enough for us to eat it’s good enough for our precious pets! Unlike wild dogs and cats our companion animals have no access to gelatin from eating cartilage, tendons and skin. Not only are Digestivital and Jointvital an effective joint supplement helping with arthritic changes and aging but some studies have shown that the main amino acid in gelatine, namely glycine, can be efficacious in helping safeguard against epileptic seizures and potential brain damage. (Joanne Carson, Ph. D, Metabolic Therapist and Founder of Canine Epilepsy Guardian Angels)

Thus, resistance to seizures may be increased by a gelatin supplement and an estimated 1% of all dogs have some form of seizure affliction.

Sprinkle on kibble and add a small amount of water and mix through or mix with moist or wet food. See the dosage rates below.

PUPPIES

Healthy and Agile gelatin supplements are excellent for all breeds of dogs. Larger dog breeds grow at a phenomenal rate in their first year of life and bones, joints, tendons, and cartilage need correct nourishment to support increasing body weight. JointvitalPet is quickly absorbed to begin stimulating skeletal collagen production at a cellular level. Ensure your beloved family member has the best.

Suggested Dose Rate for Dogs:

5kgs – 10kgs up to ½ teaspoon twice a day
10kgs – 20kgs up to 1 teaspoon twice a day
20kgs – 35kgs up to 2 teaspoons twice a day
35kgs – 45+kgs up to 1 tablespoon twice a day

Remember Digestivital and JointvitalPet are fat and cholesterol-free and 100% bovine collagen with no fillers.

Make a no calorie treat for your dog:

Doggie Treat Jellies

  • 1/2 cup of Digestivital (NB: JointvitalPet will not set)
  • 1/2 cup of cold flavoured liquid.    You can use the cooking liquid from the crock pot healthy stew and any home cooked recipes. ( I used beef stock cubes in the picture)
  • 1 1/2 cups of boiling liquid (you can use water, but part broth is fine)
  • 9 x 12 pan.
  • 2 litre bowl

Put 1/2 cup of Digestivital in a bowl. Pour 1/2 cup of cold liquid and let stand one minute to soften.

Pour 1 and 1/2 cups of boiling liquid (water or broth) over the softened gelatin, and stir until all gelatin completely dissolves, about 5 minutes, or less

Pour into a 9 x 12 pan and let harden. Cut into approximately 1″ by 3″ strips (with shears or a knife) or a correct size for your dog. The finished product is rather rubbery and “bouncy” if dropped!

Pills can be inserted into them (to hide), and maybe swallowed before being discovered.

. (If you would like “chewier” treats, next time add more gelatin.)
