With our modern, hectic lifestyle, homemade soups and broths involving cooking carcasses and bones seem to be a thing of the past. This used to be an excellent source of gelatin and is now sadly lacking in our diet.
Now pets and people on the go have access to our Vital range of products – an easy substitute and vital dietry addition, to supply the 18 amino acids necessary to maintain good physical health.
Glycine – 21%: Glycine is a neuro-transmitter involved in signalling through the hippocampus and studies have shown that higher doses than what our bodies naturally produce from diet, approx. 2 gm per day, can help with sleep and some neuro-behavioural disorders. Glycine although the smallest and simplest of the amino acids, is necessary to help the liver cleanse us from daily toxic exposure to chemicals etc. It boosts metabolism by helping the body build and maintain muscle and helps break down fat. It helps regulate blood sugars thus it is vital for diabetics. Studies are showing Glycine may be efficacious in the treatment of some tumours by restricting blood flow, and it aids the body in the secretion of Human Growth Hormone. Glycine and Arginine – 8%, together help our wounds heal faster both internally and externally making it a great supplement for those suffering from the intestinal damage of coeliac disease.
Proline – 12%: Proline plays an essential role in the production of collagen and cartilage. If we are proline deficient our bodies cannot supply enough collagen to prevent aging and wrinkles. As well as reducing the visible signs of aging and enhancing skin health this supplement also impacts on hair, nails and teeth.
Hydroxyproline – 12%: another major component of the protein collagen, playing a key role in collagen stability. Can also help with cellulite and stretch marks.
Analine – 9%: Analine’s presence in the body delivers toxins from the blood to the liver for elimination after helping the body convert glucose into energy.
Glutamic Acid – 10%: The only amino acid metabolised in the brain and important for brain function. It aids in sending potassium into the spinal fluid and is an excitatory neurotransmitter, thus there has been interest in its use for the treatment of fatigue, Parkinsons, schizophrenia, muscular dystrophy, and alcoholism.
These are the big six in gelatin and combined with the other twelve amino acids make for a power house of regenerative properties at a cellular level for our whole body.

The Dutch discovered the benefits of gelatine as a joint supplement in 1685, followed by the English fifteen years later. Gelatin is now defined as being a product obtained by the partial hydrolysis of collagen derived from bovine skin, connective tissue and bone. It does not occur ‘free in nature’, ergo there are no hoofs, horns or plant material in gelatin. (GIMA Gelatine Handbook).
Gelatin is extracted from collagen by hydrolysis with purity assured at all stages and rigorous Food Manufacturing Practice standards in place. There are different types and grades of gelatin depending on its source and the type of hydrolytic procedure used in the extraction process. The resulting product has no smell and virtually no taste, is completely palatable and easily digested by humans and animals alike making it the perfect joint supplement.
READ MORE...Technically, the difference between the two is that the short amino acid chains called peptides in the hydrolysed collagen means it will not form a gel like its food grade associate, making it soluble in cold liquid and these peptides also allow faster absorption through the intestinal wall and into the bloodstream.
This natural foodstuff, gelatin, differs essentially from other protein products in that it contains ten to twenty times the amount of glycine and proline. These amino acids are important building blocks in connective tissue and are responsible for its firmness and elasticity.
In spite of a “luxury nutritional lifestyle”, many people, without actually realizing it, suffer from amino acid deficiency. Lack of the amino acids glycine and proline e.g. can cause brittle fingernails, dull, split hair and joint pain after sustained physical activity.
Our Healthy and Agile joint supplements will have you and your pets feeling healthy and agile again in no time!
